The Quad-City Times Bix 7 Goes PINK
A portion of Bix proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure®
June 22nd, 2010- DAVENPORT, IA---While the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure® was cancelled due to lightning on June 12th, breast cancer survivors and Race for the Cure supporters will have another chance to celebrate survivorship and race for a reason, thanks to the Quad City Times Bix 7.
The Quad-City Times Bix 7 is inviting Race for the Cure registrants to sign up for the 2-mile "Quick Bix" or the 7-mile Bix race on July 24th and participate wearing their Race for the Cure t-shirts. A special gathering area will be set up for Race supporters and breast cancer survivors at the Bix post-race party on July 24th. The Bix partnership could also financially benefit the Komen Quad Cities Race for the Cure®.
Bix 7 Race director Ed Froehlich says the Quad City Times Bix 7 will donate $10 to the Race for the Cure® for each Bix entry over 15,000 people.
"We were disappointed for the Race for the Cure walkers and runners when their event was cancelled, and we are hoping this partnership will give survivors a chance to walk or run with their friends and family," said Froehlich.
Julie Bechtel, Quad-City Times publisher is thrilled with the partnership. "The Quad-City Times is proud to be celebrating our 30th year as title sponsor of the Bix 7," said Bechtel. “In keeping with our efforts to support this community our partnership with the Race for the Cure allows for continued efforts to raise money and create further awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
Race for the Cure co-directors Fred, Cathie, and Jay Whiteside are thankful for the opportunity for breast cancer survivors to celebrate together as the camaraderie is an important part of the Race for the Cure event.
"This is another chance for the community of breast cancer survivors to share their common journey. And, we hope that proceeds will be raised so that Komen can fund more mammograms for local women," said Cathie Whiteside. "We are so very appreciative of this generous and heart-warming effort by the Quad City Times Bix 7, and we encourage all Race for the Cure participants to register for the Bix to allow us to finish what we started on June 12th."
